Image Analysis

The user should remember that transpositions of the data cubes are often required in the final analysis stages to obtain velocity-position plots for example. The tasks TRANSPOSE, REPROJECT (change the coordinate system), EXTRACT (select a subset of a cube, or merges cubes), and SLICE (cut a slice through a cube) are useful tools to remember.

Standard fitting routines are available (1-D gaussian for spectral line profiles, 2-D gaussian for image features). Smoothing and image filtering tools also exist in GILDAS . However, for optimal sensitivity smoothing or high-pass filtering are better done by appropriate weighting functions in the UV plane, before mapping (i.e selecting the appropriate UV taper). This requires to go through the mapping and cleaning stages, unfortunately.
