All data reduction is done off-line on the HP workstation BURE2.
BURE1 also contains the data analysis programs for safety, but
it should not normally be used. Data
reduction is done using programs in the GILDAS package (originally
developed at the Groupe d'Astrophysique, but containing mostly IRAM
specific reduction tools). This includes large programs like CLASS,
GRAPHIC, ASTRO, CLIC, many image processing tasks, and a few
specific programs such as POINT for the pointing fit. Large
programs are all based on the same command processor, SIC, and some
familiarity with SIC will be necessary for regular users.
Some useful programs are:
- CLASS: Continuum and Line Analysis Single-dish Software
This program is used to analyse single dish data
- GreG: Grenoble Graphique
A general purpose drawing program, for everything except 3-D plots.
- GRAPHIC
A program that uses GreG to make contour plots and other graphic
displays from images. Suitable for analysis of data cubes using
the image processing tasks in the GILDAS package.
- CLIC: Continuum and Line Interferometer Calibration
The main interferometer reduction task before map making. Uses
GreG for display.
- ASTRO
An astronomical utility, that computes apparent positions of celestial
objects. Uses GreG for graphic display. Can do plots of UV coverage
and solve for calibrator flux densities.
- CFITS
A CLASS to FITS and vice-versa conversion program.
- GFITS
A GILDAS image to FITS and vice-versa conversion program.
- POINT
A GreG based program for pointing data analysis and display.
Most programs are well documented. Suggested order the
first chapters of these documents: Introduction (giving general
software organisation), SIC (the command monitor),
GreG, CLASS, CLICand GILDAS. Do not be afraid of the document sizes;
many chapters are useful only for programmers or advanced users. Image
processing tasks are described on-line in the GILDAS document.
